Love on Valentines Day

This picture is the word “love” in 9 different languages. It took me awhile to practice the one in Mandarin & I think I kind of botched the Arabic one. But the idea remains the same regardless of the script or language.
Valentines Day is often attributed to expressing romantic love, but genuine love is WAY MORE than romance. Genuine love is grounded in the reality that God is love & nothing we do or don’t do will change Who God is, full stop. God will never stop loving you because God will never stop existing.
So let’s not only celebrate that God loves us, but let’s allow that opulent & lavish love God gives us to overflow through us today!

Valentines Hangover

I’m a huge fan of Genuine Love but not as much with the romance stuff. While I certainly like my share of chick flicks, candlelight dinners, snuggling & nice cards, the idea that romance is the same as love leaves my soul cold & withered.
Romance is nice, sometimes frothy & often temperamental. In contrast, Genuine Love is the sturdy & robust soil in which intimacy flourishes, deepens & makes for opulent & desirable fruit. Consider what Paul says about love in 1Cor 13:4-7

Let’s be conscience of the difference between romance & Genuine Love, opting for substance, sacrifice & continuous sustenance for our souls. Keep in mind that 1 John 4:8 says that God is love 🙂

Happy Post Valentines Day!

Keep It Spicy

Jesus keeps life spicy 🙂
I find that when I put my trust in Jesus more than myself, life gets very adventurous & I love me lots of adventure & spice! Here are some things to consider for spicy & adventurous living:
*being in control can often sabotage many exciting adventures
*in Jesus, sweet & spice blend to be very nice
*spicy food, in contrast to bland food, can often grab our attention & cause us to more present in any given moment – Jesus isn’t bland
*keep your relationship with Jesus full of love, zest & spice 🙂
*on this Valentines weekend, take a moment to consider how you can spice up your love for Jesus – maybe even go to church this weekend! ,)

happy belated Valentines Day :)

I purposely waited to make this post until after Valentines Day, because for some people, Valentines Day is a painful reminder that they’re single.  For other people, it’s a day to celebrate love & not just romance.  If you think about it, it’s better to be single than hooked up with a yucky person or someone who is evil but pretends to be good.

The choices that we make are very important and how we see our lives and the world around us are very much active choices that we make, whether we realize it or not.  And how we see our lives is a direct result of what we allow in our hearts.  So the grand conclusion of this meandering blog is that we must be careful what we allow into our hearts and thinking (Proverbs 4:23) because these inputs help to shape the way we see & interact with our world – mental hygiene my friends 🙂

Valentines Day is not a “SAD” day

One of my friends told me that for people who aren’t married or dating, Valentines Day can be SAD – Single Awareness Day. Initially, I kind of chuckled at this acronym, but it also made me think about this. In my opinion, I think it’s very “sad” that we’ve allowed a holiday that’s about love to be turned into something almost entirely devoted to romance. Of course genuine love is more than just romance. Genuine love is about connecting with God & connecting with people – celebrating the amazing ways that we can experience & give love. Genuine love isn’t “sad” 🙂

Something very good about Valentines Day

Thankfully, my kids are at the age where romance is generally considered disgusting & repulsive. Additionally, I have some single friends who don’t relish the Valentine’s Day festivities – they call Valentines Day SAD: single awareness day.
But here’s a little twist to consider: love has a wide variety of expressions that have nothing to do w romance. There is parental love, spiritual love, a child’s love for their parents, friendship love & lots more. But ultimately, the greatest reason to celebrate Valentines Day is that you are perfectly loved by your heavenly Father & He demonstrates His love for us in many different ways throughout each day of our lives. Indeed, God’s love for you is FIRE: flawless, infinite, relentless & extravagant. May you experience God’s rich love for you on this day when we celebrate love 😀

to prepare for Valentines Day

The Love Holiday is just around the corner & it is most commonly celebrated in a romantic context.  But being the strange bird that I am, I think that limiting love to a romantic context is a catastrophic tragedy 🙂

So here are a few of my thoughts on genuine love

  • genuine love is the most transformational power known to humanity
  • genuine love starts with God & requires God to be expressed in human relationships
  • genuine love is more about the recipient than the giver
  • genuine love is unlimited by time or location
  • genuine love works in tandem with forgiveness

Thats the power of love!  😀
