Trusty or Tricky?

I recently received an email advertisement about getting 40% off a purchase at a store I frequent.  When I attempted to use the discount, the cashier said that the discount wasn’t applicable because of the fine print.  To my thinking, this is deceptive or tricky marketing and it doesn’t foster trust.  It’s advertising that’s appealing, but the experience isn’t fulfilling.

Thankfully, Jesus isn’t a marketing trick.  Indeed, Jesus far exceeds our wildest expectations and worthy of all our trust.  There’s nothing tricky in Jesus, but rather everything trustworthy!  Just because human marketing & expectations leave much to be desired, let’s allow our trust in Jesus to deepen since He is the ultimate expression of genuine love!

tricksy, I say!

If the devil can get you to question or doubt God’s character than you’ve moved into a very dangerous place.  If you think about it, that’s exactly what the snake did to Eve in the Garden of Eden – question God’s motives and character.  Consider this:  God is love, so God is always loving.  When we think that God is sometimes unfaithful, unreliable or not helping us, then we’ve already eaten the apple with which the snake was tempting Eve.  Some things about God that never change, regardless of how we feel or what we’re going through:  God is love, all-powerful, ever-present, our Helper, all-knowing and steadfast.  Don’t fall for any decptions that might cause you to think differently about who God is in your life! 🙂

A Helpful Trick

The other day, I received some really bad news & it was very discouraging & rather disheartening. It was interesting to watch my reaction because I did something kind of absent-mindedly that I would not have normally done. I started to remember things during the day for which I was thankful. I started thanking God for getting the kids to school on time. I thanked God for helping me to not be rude to someone who had said something hateful to me. I thanked God for getting to eat lunch at home & for the nice coffee there. I started to thank God for all kinds of things & shortly thereafter, rather than being depressed about the negative news that I had received, my heart was lots more encouraged, lite & even loving.
Being thankful is a helpful lifestyle & not merely a seasonal celebration 🙂
