swim lessons

Where We Begin

This is a picture of the pool where I took swimming lessons when I was 5. I walked past it just now & had lots of fond memories like: Marco Polo, swim freeze tag, races, wrestling matches & lots more. To this day, I still love to swim & this pool was my introduction to a lifetime of enjoyment!

In a similar way, when we get introduced to Jesus, we can experience a life of enjoyment, fulfillment, strength, grace, wonder, forgiveness & best of all, genuine love. May this blog remind you to go back to your first live with Jesus, no matter the circumstances of your life, things you’ve messed up, wounds you’ve experienced, misunderstandings, etc. Let’s allow Jesus to love our hearts back to the deeply fulfilling relationship He so intensely wants with us!

lessons I learn at my kids’ swim lessons :)

Last night I took my kids to their 1st swim lesson of this season & it was an interesting experience.  To begin, the lessons were delayed because someone puked in the pool & they had to clean it up – complete with the red bio-hazard bag & latex gloves.  After this brief delay, my kids went to their respective levels / instructors.  While I watched their lessons, at the beginning I wasn’t very happy because all of my kids seemed to be the last in their groups and I wanted to “protect” them.  However, when the lessons were finished almost all of my kids were totally pumped about their lesson and about what they achieved.

So here’s my point:  it’s important for us to let God use different people in our lives to help us to grow.  If we only get ourselves around comfortable people, we can tend to get stagnant.  But if we let ourselves get around people who challenge us or who are different, then often times God helps us to grow more and more into the person He designs us to be.  Proverbs says that iron sharpens iron – let God bring some “iron” into your life 🙂

preparation

As I’m writing, my kids are getting ready for their swim lessons today:  swim suits, goggles, flip flops, towels, sun screen etc.  Reece always says, “proper prior planning prevents poor performance.”  This is extremely true for swim lessons.  When I don’t prepare well, they get sunburns, have stingy eyes and ride home grumpy – an all around bad experience that could have been good, if I had prepared better.

This is a great lesson in life – preparing for what’s ahead.  Now my kids don’t always know what’s going to be happening & its my responsibility as their mom to do my best to make sure they’re ready for what’s around the bend.  They need to be adept at various skills before they can move onto to the next challenge (even if they don’t know what the challenge is).  Same with God.  I think He’s always preparing us for what’s next.  Thankfully, we can trust Him even more than ourselves, that He will keep us prepared for what’s coming – even swim lessons.  😉
