Over the last week, it’s been fun to be around LOADS of sexworkers in Bangledesh, nice church folk in America, random & fascinating travel peeps & best of all, my family. And I enjoyed each exchange & interaction.
Were some people cranky?Yes
Were some people strange? Yes
Were some people brilliant? Definitely
Were some people hurting? Absolutely
Were some people broken? Everyone
And I’m so grateful that God is teaching & helping me to both enjoy & love people, full stop. Sometimes I do this better than others, to be sure. And it’s immensely helpful just to relax, smile & enjoy people no matter what!
This morning I enjoyed some very tasty chai some where in rural Bangledesh. As my friends and I waited for the gentleman to make the chai, a crowd accumulated around us as we were definite novelties. A person could get jittery surrounding by curious strangers with no communication possibilities. Then add on that we were the only females in the group & a person could be intimidated, even scared.
But I’ve found that being friendly & fun can make these kinds of situations into loads for fun everyone! Furthermore, if a person doesn’t take themselves too seriously it’s even more entertaining for everyone!
Let’s be the difference in our world – full of light, love, joy & LIFE!!
My daughter was meeting some new people & she was coaching me about my social etiquette, endeavoring to be helpful 🙂
At the end of her coaching efforts, she concluded with, “Mom, don’t wear your porcupine suit – smile!” While some people might be put off by her input, I was grateful. She wasn’t being disrespectful or belittling. She was sincerely trying to help me & I figure help is generally a good thing. And on that note, it’s also really good to be helpful!
In John 14:16, Jesus says that He will ask the Father to send us the Helper, aka Holy Spirit. Seems to me that Help is kind of like the Holy Spirit’s nickname – so receiving & giving help can be like cooperating with the Holy Spirit in our daily living. Let’s endeavor to both give & receive help, as we stay in synch with the Holy Spirit throughout this day!
The other day I surprisingly arrived early for a party & was waiting on the fringes for the festivities to begin. There weren’t many people there yet, which was good for me, so I could get my introvert self in socializing mode. As I was prepping myself, this random dude walked over & was super friendly. Initially, I don’t think I was very cordial, doing that introvert porcupine thing. But as we talked, I learned that the guy had studied Biblical Greek – YAHOOO!!!! Furthermore, as we talked, I learned that he’d also studied Biblical Hebrew – an added boon!!!! He was WAY smarter than me & I totally enjoyed talking with him & learning new stuff.
The party turned out to be totally enjoyable &
when I finally left, I felt God wink at me with a pleasing smile.
Seems to me that God enjoys blessing us with stuff He knows that we will uniquely enjoy – making a deep connection with us not only in big things but also in seemingly small perks along the way.
Whenever I get my hair fixed, it’s always lots of fun because of the different kinds of people I get to meet – some are intense, some are bubbly, some have an über dry whit, others are reflective & observant . . . . . So many different kinda of people & all uniquely wonderful. So whenever I get my hair done, it’s always like a party day to celebrate people & enjoy such unique & delightful personalities. It makes me thankful that God is amazingly creative, extravagant, gracious & most of all, loving!
Happy day to you! I’ve been back from South Sudan for a week, so I’m happily sleeping through the night, I enjoyed immensely the time with my family last week, with the 4th of July holiday break and I’m happy to say that my digestion is doing well, after having experienced some interesting adventures. So that’s all really good because on Sun, we fly to Cambodia for 1.5 weeks 🙂
I also want to give you some encouragement today & hopefully make you smile a bit. Here are few attempts at these goals:
seeing the good that’s happening around us is often a choice of focus
sometimes we go through good seasons & sometimes we go through some not so good seasons – the good news is that we keep going ,)
drink lots of water – it keeps you healthy, chirpy & perky ,)
thankfully, God’s still in charge, no matter what’s happening around us
what do you call a rabbit with fleas? Bugs bunny 😀
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate all of the fasting feedback!! I’m using lots of the insights personally in fasting, so thank you LOADS for helping me grow in God by sharing your thoughts & experiences! If you haven’t left a comment yet, please do – even if you don’t think you have much to say (something is better than nothing).
Also, do you have any books or additional websites you’d recommend for fasting? Please leave any ideas you have in a comment, as I’m trying to be pretty thorough.
Again, thanks so much for your help & keep it coming! 🙂
