3 Helpful Steps for Growing

I’m firmly convinced that God has made each of us to be growing individuals and not merely in girth or width 🙂

We can grow in lots of ways that include:  emotional maturity, relationship skills, intellectual acumen, communication improvements, spiritual development, self-control enhancements, budgeting skills & heaps more!  And if I’m fully honest with you, I like myself better when I’m growing rather than when I’m stagnant.

Here are 3 helpful steps for growing & feel free to add more ideas in the comments!

  1. Always Learning:  learning new skills, exploring new topics, reading a variety of books are a few ways that we can position ourselves to be life-long learners.
  2. Permission to Make Mistakes:  mistakes and failures seem to be the complementary counterparts to growing and success.  Indeed, I think I learn more from when I fail than when I continually succeed.
  3. Rest and Run Rhythm:  When I’m always going, I get worn down & I find it harder to learn and grow because I’m tired.  On the other side, when I rest too much I get lethargic and my ability to grow and learn seems to dwindle.

Let’s be committed to grow into the person God has made us to be!  Eph 2:10 🙂

Fake News

I’ve been seeing some interesting stuff about fake news. It’s not surprising to me that there’s an increase in fake news since the regular news seems to have some questionable assumptions & untrustworthy conclusions.
What we want is true news – stuff that’s objective & accountable. We want to listen / see news that has been researched & proven to be reliable. We want news that’s proven to be balanced & accurate over long amounts of time.
But let’s never forget or ignore that Good News is ground zero. And here’s the Good News:

  • Jesus loves you
  • Jesus doesn’t change
  • Jesus is sovereign

Regardless of the fake-ness or truth of the news that’s reported, the Good News is reliable, immutable & eternal!

Did God Say?

This question is massively significant for us everyday. I say that because it was the starter question the serpent asked Eve in the Garden of Eden & it was the beginning of original sin.
So do we know what God’s Word says? Eve kind of knew, but she’s wasn’t totally clear & confident with her reply to this question & I think that’s when the enemy gets a toehold with us.
Sometimes we kind of know God’s Word, but if we’re super honest, it would be very helpful to know God’s Word better 🙂
Here are some questions to consider:
Do you ever struggle to know what God says?
Do you ever struggle to believe what God says?
Do you ever struggle to do what God says?

I think it’s really important to ask ourselves this question, “Did God say . . . ?” and apply it to our thoughts, emotions, actions, conversations. When we make God’s Word an essential priority, this will help us stay away from the enemy’s deceptions, whispers & questions!

Attention!! Attention!!

https://youtu.be/t0XBCrhkvMw

Do you ever struggle to focus? I definitely struggle with my focus & I’m learning that it’s easier for me to focus on some things more than others. For example, I’m not very good at listening to stuff, but I’m better at reading. Some people like video content & find it easier to pay attention. So here’s some good news for the video peeps! I started my own YouTube channel & I’m uploading a series once a week. The series I’m working on is about prayer & it’s really excellent!! For the prayer series, each episode is short & very relevant!
Feel free to subscribe & pass on the link to your friends who are interested in prayer!

Help to Grow

One of the things my parents invested in me that I deeply appreciate is the importance of growing. My parents always affirmed my efforts to grow in a plethora of ways – intellectually, athletically, socially, spiritually, etc.
Consequently, I’m a firm advocate of personal growth & one of the ways that helps me grow is by reading. So here’s a list of books I’ve read lately that have helped me learn & grow:

*Warrior Ethos by Steven Pressfield

*Resilience by Eric Greitens

*RA Torrey’s book on the Holy Spirit

  • CS Lewis’ Space Trilogy

*Mans Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl

*Purity of Heart by Kierkegaard

*Essentialism by McKeow

Consider, as well, pre-ordering my new book Heavenly Help – it’s a must read to help us grow closer to God 🙂

Love to listen to people!!

Listening to people is entirely AWESOME! Their stories, wisdom, insights, experiences can be provide such a great way to connect & learn about life, people & relationships – such very rich!!
In much the same way, when we read about Jesus in the Gospels, we get to see & understand Jesus in extremely insightful & very earthy ways. I love reading how Jesus was born in a stable & His first bed was a feeding trough for animals. I love reading about Jesus giving an earful to the religious leaders of His day. And what I most love about Jesus is the continually extravagant ways that Jesus showed live in creative, redeeming & transformational ways.
Be sure to take some time to read about & listen to Jesus’s stories, heart wide open 🙂
