Famous People

It’s interesting to watch people when someone famous is around, be that a movie star, an accomplished athlete, a Christian leader, a youtube star, political leader, pop singer, etc.  And we all have people who we look up to & capture our attention / applause.  But let’s take a minute to consider how we behave and talk around famous people.  And even more importantly, maybe we should consider how we act and talk when no one famous is around, keeping in mind that Jesus is ever present.

And let’s be sure that no one captures our attention or applause more than Jesus, who loves and knows us better than anyone in our life!

!!!!!MORE!!!!!!

Our culture tells us that “more” isn’t enough.  We need more money, more time, more status, more popularity, more followers, more friends, more activities, more education, more clothes, more muscles, more fitness, more image, more contacts, more influence, . . . . . . . I’ve been thinking about “more” in light of what the Bible says about the demands of our culture for more & increased provisions.

In the Bible, God is revealed as God our Provider / Provision in Genesis 22, when Abraham discovers the “ram in the thicket” as he’s about to sacrifice his son Isaac.  Our culture thoroughly affirms the truth that God is our Provider and we revel in experiencing God’s provisions (in an already abundant country).  But Abraham’s journey to experience God as his Provider was on the path of sacrifice.  The whole journey that ended up with Abraham experiencing God’s provisions was the preparation and journey of obedience & sacrifice.  Maybe what we really need is more sacrifice 🙂

Some thoughts on being popular

Popularity is an interesting topic. We generally want people to like us & think we’re cool. We like to fit in & feel comfortable around the people with whom we interact – I think this is all pretty natural. Where we get into trouble with the popularity pursuit is when the popularity w people undercuts our popularity w God. It’s nice when our people & God popularity complement each other, but when when we have to make a choice between being popular w people or being popular w God, make the decision now to chose God.
In the long run, choosing God will always sort out with better results than trying to be popular w people 🙂
