I have a friend in Cambodia & he has a heart of gold. Vimean is his name & he always provokes me to love well. He lives on the outskirts of a massive garbage dump & he’s always generous, super encouraging, positive & eager to share about Jesus. Vimean’s heart is golden. I was thinking about him in contrast to some other folk who have gold in their hands. Sometimes wealth in our hands can be really helpful but let’s always be sure that our hearts are full of gold no matter if our hands have money or not. Money in the hands doesn’t guarantee that a person has a heart of gold.
I was making my coffee this morning & didn’t pay attention well, so I accidentally burned my hand – HELP!!!! That’s about what I said, at maximum volume. My son jumped into action & grabbed some ice that immediately helped soothe the burn. Thankfully, he helped me & didn’t make me feel stupid for making my thoughtless mistake.
Seems to me that this is often what the Holy Spirit does – readily aides our cry for help, comforts & heals what hurts without making us feel stupid or shamed in the process.
Be sure to get your copy of Heavenly Help – we both need more Help than we realize 🙂
I’ve been thinking a little bit about walking hand in hand with Jesus and then I read this morning in Ps 73:23 that God holds my hand. This feels really soothing, safe, assuring and secure to think that Jesus holds my hand. Then I also remembered that when Peter was drowning from his water walking experiment, Jesus reached out His hand and rescued Peter. Finally, I was also thinking about how the angels took Lot by the hand when he lingered in Sodom when God was ready to obliterate this city. The stories of Peter drowning & Lot lingering show me that God is personal enough to take my hand to keep me from drowning in various storms & to keep me from being destroyed by my own stupidity.
Thankfully, Jesus takes us by our hand, day by day & moment by moment 🙂
