A Helpful Inventory

Take a quick minute to remember a few of the ways God has shown up in your life, met various needs & resolved things that seemed impossible. I’ve been looking over the last several years today & seeing God’s hand throughout the years in so many magnificent & unexpected ways! As I look back, not only do I see God’s faithful provisions, but I’m astounded at the perfect timing of His work, weaving random experiences into a gorgeous tapestry of grace & genuine love.
Whenever you get discouraged or begin to question God’s input in your life, take a few minutes to look at what God has done in your past. Most assuredly this will encourage your heart that God is very present & engaged in your life!

are you excited?!??

Thrills, chills, spills and frills – we all love being excited, inspired, encouraged & sometimes, even schmoozed.  Perhaps we can even be “excitement junkies”, from time to time, living for the next thrill or rush.  I don’t think, however, God designed our lives to be a continual roller coaster, going from peak to valley and curve to corkscrew.  There’s huge value in stability even when it seems boring.  If the truth be known, you can predict with fair accuracy a person’s future success by their daily routines & disciplines.

While it can be lots of fun to get excited, never resent the importance of stability.  Here are a few quick perks from stability:

  • strength improves with stability
  • value grows with stability
  • trust flourishes with stability
  • roots deepend with stability
  • nightcare with Saving Moses is genuine love expressed in stability

Is God a Vending Machine?

This sounds like a rhetorical question to which we automatically reply, “No!” But if we look at our actions & how we treat God, maybe we treat God like a vending machine: please answer my prayers, make my life comfy, give me the money & significance that I want, fix everything & I’ll pay You for Your services with possibly church attendance, tithing or at least a tip for good service – OUCH!!
This morning I read Jer 7:27 & God told Jeremiah to speak to the Israelites even though they wouldn’t listen. So here’s something to consider: do we obey God for the results or from being faithful to our relationship? Let’s not treat God like a vending machine 🙂

maintenance

Things usually last longer when we keep up with regular maintenance – on our cars, with our homes, health & relationships, which can be kind of tricky.  All relationships go through ups and downs, but being steady with the maintenance piece is an essential ingredient for any relationship continuity.  With this being said, let’s be certain to keep consistent with the daily maintenance of our walk with God & here are some helpful thoughts about this:

  • any effort I give to my relationship with God always seems to be microscopic compared to what I receive back from God
  • God applauds faithfulness – another word for maintenance:  “Well done, thou God & faithful servant”
  • maintenance with God isn’t just a Sunday, Christmas or Easter event – it’s the daily connection through prayer & the Bible that fit the maintenance paradigm
  • sometimes this is true:  walking with God (maintenance) + working for God = wonders from God ,)
