Hot Topic: Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, et al.

Clearly, this year’s presidential race has generated heaps of attention, angst, journalism opportunities and raised eyebrows.  The tumultuous run-offs between Ted Cruz versus Donald Trump & Hillary Clinton versus Bernie Sanders have encouraged me to pray more than I ever have for this year’s election.

Regardless of your political persuasions, let’s be sure that we keep our prayer level higher than our worry level.  Let’s remember that God is in control more than any man or woman.  Let’s be certain that we do three things that mark us as followers of Jesus, based on John 13:35:

  • love God
  • love people
  • love ourselves

Loving well is letting the Holy Spirit pour God’s love into our hearts, moment by moment & day by day 🙂

Politicians, Elections & Voting

I’ve been watching the political situation in America & clearly there are some conflicting opinions, beliefs & methods. It seems that our our country is sharply divided & there’s more than enough hostility in this election year.

As a follower of Jesus, it’s disappointing to see so many believers put such faith & focus on politics.
From my perspective, there are some important axioms to keep in mind for each of us who desire to follow Jesus:

  • Politics has never changed the human heart – at its best, it’s a bandaid for the sinful human condition
  • Let’s be sure our behavior & words match our faith in Jesus otherwise we run the risk of becoming hypocrites
  • Pray – 1Tim 2:1-3 tells us to pray for those who are in authority. Let’s pray more than we worry or complain

Election seasons don’t exempt us from being faith-filled & faithful to Christ 🙂

Hot Topic: Presidential Debate

Last night, there was a debate among the presidential candidates for the Republican Party. Unfortunately, I didn’t watch the debate, as I had a responsibility with my church that took precedence. Nevertheless, I heard the debate was interesting & that each candidate made some good points. From my perspective, the political situation in America is in a really challenging position & I feel that our country is extremely divided & fragmented. This is very concerning to me & I find myself moved to pray for the 2016 election more than normal. Regardless of your political persuasions, I’d like to ask you to join me in praying for our country & our leaders. Consider the verses from 1Timothy 2:1-4
