spires and fear of heights

One time when I was in China back in the dark ages, I had a really cool opportunity to go para-gliding!  To make a long story short, when I ran off the cliff to catch some wind & I caught what’s known as a thermal.  It was like zipping up an elevator shaft, crazy fast!!!!!  At first, I thought I should let go of the para-glider thing & then I quickly thought that was a stupid idea & I should hold of for the ride & see how far up I could go.  Needless to say, it was very unnerving at first, but after I decided to settle in for the ride, the whole thing became like a religious experience & very powerful!

In a similar way, it seems to me that God is always inviting us to walk in higher ways (without drugs) but maybe we shirk from walking in these higher levels because we are afraid of heights, new experiences or maybe even afraid of falling or failing.  Here are a few encouraging points to consider about heights & spires:

  • Aspire – let God work into your desires greater & higher aspirations:  God’s ways are higher than our ways
  • Perspire – there’s some truth to the idea of “sweat equity” & even Paul talks about working out our salvation with fear & trembling
  • Conspire – dream and brainstorm with God about what divine paths & opportunities God would have you explore

wake UP!!!!!!!

Right out of the gate, you need to know that I’m EXTREMELY amped up about this post.  I’m amped up, because it seems to me that virtually no one in the international community is making a REALLY IMPORTANT CONNECTION.  Here’s the deal:  ebola is an epidemic that has been ravaging three countries in West Africa (Sierra Leone, Guinea & Liberia) for this entire year.  The international community has become increasingly attentive and responsive to this awful disease that currently has no known cure & with an 70% mortality rate.  Ebola is really serious!

But here’s the WAKE UP CALL:  While the US has currently given over $200million for ebola aid & assistance, China has given less than $10million to the ebola crisis up to today.  The reason I’m so amped up about this discrepency is because China is the leading economic partner for Sierra Leone, Guinea & Liberia.  Feel free to research the recent economic agreements that China has negotiated with these three nations in the last 5 years & you’ll rapidly see that China is acquiring vast amounts of wealth & natural resources from these nations, but up to this day, China has been shamefully silent and virtually absent from providing any noteworthy support against ebola.

6db19_141006091841-03-ebola-1006-horizontal-gallery  My rant in this post isn’t based solely on Judeo Christian values.  My rant in this post is based on human dignity & I would urge you to put pressure on the Chinese government to save their own economic face & put some hefty finances toward stopping the spread of ebola in these three nations.  Please post this blog on your Facebook page, pass it along to your friends and let’s bring to international public awareness this shameful neglect from the second biggest economy in the world, China.

People are important

I’m just finishing my weekend in Shanghai & I’m always astounded by several things when I get to visit China (possibly one of my favorite nations in the world):
*the number of people in this nation is 100% boggling. As we were driving today, I was trying to figure out how to show you 23million people in one city – Shanghai (picture of a “few” apt buildings in this monstrosity of a city)
*God’s immense love for people – there’s not one person in the 23million who live in Shanghai that is irrelevant to God; the quantity of people doesn’t compromise quality of God’s love
*God’s hand is engaged throughout all things massive & micro
*these reflections help to encourage trust in my heart that God is totally involved throughout my life & is altogether trustworthy – for both of us 🙂

Loving me some China!

I started coming to China more than 25 years ago & I totally love this place & the people even more! China is wonderful in lots of different ways – rich history, very cool people, great food, diverse cultures & much more.
But let me encourage you that wherever you are at, God is present & eager to have fellowship with you. I believe with all of my heart that God made you for the purpose of enjoying your company in all places: whether you’re
*at home in the routines of daily living,
*in a really difficult season of life,
*swamped with an ocean of demands & responsibilities,
*going into a busy weekend
*enjoying China ,)

God loves your company!

Happy Provision Day!

I’ve had amazing experiences today – the kind that takes my breath away & pause in awestruck wonder at Gods indescribable work in our lives. This morning, I had the profound honor of getting to minister to well over 1,000 Christian leaders from all over China. For me, this honor is particularly meaningful because of having China in my heart for more than 20 years. I started coming to China as a teenager & fell in love with the people from my 1st trip. So today was extremely powerful – getting to minister about loving Jesus to these fantastic leaders.
Added onto this, I’ve had some absolutely amazing fellowship w some of the highest caliber of people that I’ve ever met. As I sit here writing this, I cannot help but see God’s hand guiding & providing for me. He gives me exactly what I need, when I need it. With this confidence & assurance, it helps me know that I can trust Him to richly supply for my needs. In my better moments, I know that God is beyond good to me & today is one of those better moments (even though I miss my family LOTS). So I will remember this Independence Day especially well – for God’s astounding goodness & love to me.
I pray that today will be filled with a great awareness of God’s outrageous love for you.
Tomorrow morning, I leave for Cambodia to discover what God has for Saving Moses there. Stay tuned!

China is simply spectacular

Well, my love for China has not diminished, nor did I think it would. I find myself loving the people as much, if not more, than I ever have. They capture your heart in so many different ways.
Yesterday, we had the privilege if launching Saving Moses in China by partnering w an orphanage to supply 3mnths worth of baby formula & 100 blankets to help them stay warm. The orphanage we visited oversees & cares for approximately 300 children under 5 yrs old, so it was fabulous getting to visit such a nice place 🙂
Last nite, we had a public healing mtg in downtown Kunming. I can’t even begin to tell you how meaningful this privilege is to me. We got to pray for people w back & eye problems & then our team of abt 100 people was able to pray for anyone who requested prayer. We were pleasantly mobbed 😉
So, my heart is full of Asia, praise Jesus!
Tomorrow I get to come home & I’m TOTALLY looking forward to being w my family. I’ve missed them very much. I gotta figure out how I can bring 1 with me on these trips.
Thx heaps for your prayers, support & encouragement!!

Travel

I’m sitting in the Phnom Penh airport (Cambodia) waiting for my flt to China. I totally love this country & the people here. They are simply amazing. I love getting to see what God is doing here & exploring the opportunities to minister w God’s tangible love. I’m pretty excited about saving Moses getting launched here & how God will continue to expand our abilities. Whenever I leave Cambodia, I’m always overflowing in my heart w Gods love for the people here. It makes it difficult to leave.
But soon, I’ll get on the plane to China, another place I love. Today, I’ll join mom & our team to explore Gods power & love in this great country. Appreciate all of your thoughts & prayers!
