In the US today, we celebrate a national holiday called, “Labor Day.” The official year that it was started in America was 1882 & laborers had to strike to get the day “off” for a pause or rest from work. And I think it’s the universal human experience that we all need a pause from work. Perhaps we agree on this because of Divine design.
If you think about it, even God took a pause on the seventh day of the Creation week, when He rested. And to reinforce the need for rest, God established the Sabbath as one of the Ten Commandments. The Sabbath is one day a week to rest from our work & set our attention / affection toward fellowship with God.
So let’s celebrate not only success and productivity, but also rest because without rest our souls become thin, weary, unsettled and broken. Happy Labor Day!
“Don’t blow me OFF!” These were my words to a family member today before we all departed for our busy days. Sometimes, this family member blows me off & it rankles me. So as I was showering, the Holy Spirit reminded me of John 20:22, after Jesus rose from the dead, He blew ON His disciples & said, “Receive the Holy Spirit!” Furthermore, in Genesis 2:7, God formed Adam from the dirt & blew IN his nostrils & man became a living being.
Let’s be careful that we don’t blow off the Holy Spirit, but rather that we allow the Holy Spirit to be infused into all of today, our thoughts, emotions, decisions & focus!
We can blow off the Holy Spirit, let the Holy Spirit breath on us or into our lives through his day! Let’s go for maximum infusion!!
In the last 2 weeks, I’ve been in 5 states, 2 countries, through 5 time zone, one boat & 8 planes. Suffice it to say that I feel like I’ve been in a state of perpetual motion. It will be very nice to be still, read on my back porch, breath deeply, cook for my family & snuggle.
Maybe God would like some of that stillness with us as well. Clearly, we all have plenty of responsibilities that require our energies & focus, but let’s also be attentive to all let the engine idle. Running our lives in the red zone for too long isn’t good for anyone nor are we designed by our Creator to live in perpetual motion 🙂
To be still, to engage, hold hands, listen to birds, watch the clouds, center & exhale 🙂
Sometimes life can get kind of heavy duty. We all have responsibilities, expectations, bills, challenges, frustrations, stressors, etc. Consequently, from time to time, it’s nice to have a little levity in the mix 🙂
So here’s my attempt to brighten your day and add a little fun for your weekend:
what happened when the glassblower inhaled? He got a “pane” in his stomach 🙂
what do you call a cow with no legs? ground beef 🙂
did you know that it’s biblical for men to make coffee? He-brews 🙂
why did the tightrope walker visit the bank? to check his balance 🙂
how did the Pacific Ocean greet the Atlantic Ocean? he waved 🙂
what’s a shark’s favorite game? swallow the leader 🙂
Ok my friends, I know these are a little (or a lot) cheesy, but hopefully you had a smile on a few of them to brighten your day. In Proverbs 17:22, it says that a joyful heart is good medicine 🙂
