I’ve just read about the massive 7.9 earthquake in Nepal. The destruction & lives lost won’t be fully assessed for several weeks, but so far, more than 970 people have died. Now, it’s a race against the clock to unbury & rescue probably thousands more before time runs out for them. There are huge efforts being made to rush aid, support and life to this country, even though there’s concern that the airport in Kathmandu may also be damaged from the quake.
When I watch Jesus in the Gospels, I’ve never seen Him run away from nor ignore pain, suffering and hardship. Rather, when I look at Jesus in the Gospels, He brought life, freedom, redemption, healing, restoration and much more wherever He went. Rather than running from & ignoring pain, suffering, loss and hardship, at minimum, let’s run with concern and prayer to this desperately needy plight in Nepal. I don’t think Jesus suffered from charity fatigue #selah
Right out of the gate, you need to know that I’m EXTREMELY amped up about this post. I’m amped up, because it seems to me that virtually no one in the international community is making a REALLY IMPORTANT CONNECTION. Here’s the deal: ebola is an epidemic that has been ravaging three countries in West Africa (Sierra Leone, Guinea & Liberia) for this entire year. The international community has become increasingly attentive and responsive to this awful disease that currently has no known cure & with an 70% mortality rate. Ebola is really serious!
But here’s the WAKE UP CALL: While the US has currently given over $200million for ebola aid & assistance, China has given less than $10million to the ebola crisis up to today. The reason I’m so amped up about this discrepency is because China is the leading economic partner for Sierra Leone, Guinea & Liberia. Feel free to research the recent economic agreements that China has negotiated with these three nations in the last 5 years & you’ll rapidly see that China is acquiring vast amounts of wealth & natural resources from these nations, but up to this day, China has been shamefully silent and virtually absent from providing any noteworthy support against ebola.
My rant in this post isn’t based solely on Judeo Christian values. My rant in this post is based on human dignity & I would urge you to put pressure on the Chinese government to save their own economic face & put some hefty finances toward stopping the spread of ebola in these three nations. Please post this blog on your Facebook page, pass it along to your friends and let’s bring to international public awareness this shameful neglect from the second biggest economy in the world, China.
We visited the Cubal malnutrition clinic today & this has brought back some difficult memories from our visit last year, when Angelina died even though we had donated blood to help her improve. I visited the same room as well as others & met some very wonderful moms & grandmothers. Many of these women are nothing less than heroes. Yesterday I met a grandma who was vigilantly watching over her granddaughter. The grandmother is very uneducated but her tenacity & fight to help her granddaughter to live is something I won’t forget. There is a rugged & timeless determination in her cloudy eyes to keep her grand daughter alive, perhaps due to the many family deaths through which she has already lived.
Saving Moses is bringing life, hope & future to Angola – I experienced this today.
