Lord’s Prayer & forgiveness

Everyday, we get the chance to practice forgiveness in both quantity (lots of “small things”) & quantity (some really hefty, weighty & serious interactions).  Here’s the black & white truth:  all relationships remain shallow without forgiveness.  The deeper the relationship, often times, the greater the need for forgiveness.  Forgiveness, for me, is most important because I want my relationship with God  to be deep, genuine & transformational.  I find that when I’m bent out of shape with someone, it affects my walk w God.  Consequently, if I’m going to nurture, guard & be part of growing my walk with Him, I need to continually practice forgiving, even if the person doesn’t apologize for their actions or is unaware of how they hurt you.  Forgiveness isn’t based on what the other person does or doesn’t do – it comes from your heart & most of all from receiving forgiveness from your heavenly Father so you can let it flow through you.

Something helpful I’ve found in the forgiveness adventure is to forgive quickly – the longer I wait the harder it becomes to forgive.  What helps you to be forgiving???

  1. Hello Sarah and welcome to the blogosphere. Your show today is the best message I have ever heard you share. I hope all who heard it realize that we CAN communicate directly with Our Lord.

I find it so interesting that you suggested using the Lord’s Prayer as a way to strengthen our relationship with God because that is what worked for me when I first began to hear from Him every day.

This free blog at WordPress is a great first step into the power of using a blog to reach out. There are many ways to make WP blogs more effective so if I can ever be of assistance please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I also use a free WP blog linked in this comment when I am moved to share something from my heart. Eventually I know that I will be called to apply all that I know about blogging to the more powerful methods I use in helping individuals, bloggers and small businesses reach out more effectively.

I would be honored to share with you all that I know and assist you should that be something you are called to do. The Lord has guided my work in the computer field for many decades now and specifically on the Internet since 1994 and in the most recent few years through learning all that is possible through blogging.

Welcome and may Our Lord use us both to reach more of His Own.

  2. I have never blogged before so I hope this encourages others in the Baby Boom generation to participate.

I grew up an Episcopalian and of course said the Lord’s Prayer in a proper religious manner. I was saved and baptized in 1972.

When I saw the POD cast listing on EVERY DAY with MARILYN and SARAH on the Lord’s Prayer I really thought it would be a good review. But I was pleasantly surprised. What a wonderful AHA moment when you said that I was here on earth to be GOD’S DAUGHTER. I was not here to be of USE to him, but to be HIS DAUGHTER.

For so many years my life theme has been the song that has the phrase
that says ‘make me,fill me,mold me ,use me’. Being a servant of God was an easy role for me.

I have been a Chaplain with special populations, now retired, raised adopted kids and done everything I hoped God had and would show me in scripture. It was always for the ones that God chose. I was the one to push them to the top of the water, the rescuer. It felt right to help him with HIs kids. I always gave God the glory and considered my self a sower of God’s seed that was my purpose. I didn’t understand that I was HIS daughter. Now I get it. As my prayer partner says you understood for others, now you understand for yourself. You can sit with your Father in heaven , place yourself in his hand, and lean on HIM, He is YOUR Father.

I have just finished the NAMES OF GOD by your Mother so your sermon was in God’s perfect timing for his daughter, me , C. God Bless your ministry Sarah.

  3. MY FRIEND, MAGGIE, AT WORK ALWAYS REMINDS ME TO PRAY FOR THIS PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCE AND THAT SITUATION OR THEM, HIM OR HER. SHE IS RIGHT YOU KNOW. THE BENEFIT OF PRAYING FOR THE PREYING IS SO I CAN GET INTIMATE WITH GOD FIRST AND THEN REAP THE REWARDS LATER. THE REWARDS COME IN NOT LETTING MY BUTTONS GET PUSHED ANYMORE BY BULLIES, MANAGEMENT, THE UNLOVED, ETC. I WANT GOD MORE THAT ANYTHING IN MY LIFE. I’M SEEKING HIS GLORY, HIS WORDS, DELIVERANCE AND RECEIVING DAILY BLESSINGS SUCH AS CALMNESS, PEACE, FAITH, FINANCIAL WISDOM, COMPANIONSHIP WITH REAL CHRISTIAN SEEKERS OF GOD AND JESUS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ‘LORDS PRAYER’ MESSAGE. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME TODAY I HAVE HEARD A ‘LORDS PRAYER’ (LUKE 11: 1-4) MESSAGE (AT THE HOUSTON REVIVAL CENTER).
YOUR FRIEND IN CHRIST, LINDA M. SMITH
PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH ME, GOD IS NOT THROUGH WITH ME YET.

  4. Hello Sarah,
For the first time in a long time I caught you speaking early in the morning on Daystar. You were speaking one the first three steps given to us in the Lords Prayer. I really was fired up in agreement with what you were saying.
Two years ago, I finally submitted to God and asked Him to help me seek Him with all my heart. I also got it from the Lord’s Prayer. Your will be done in my life, not my will. I am a late bloomer, been a believer almost all my life, but had no victory. Than that day when in desperation I said “Father your will not my will in my life, help me to seek you with all my heart all my soul and all my mind. God walked me through learning more and more about forgiveness. Got to get rid of all the junk in order to receive all His peace, love and joy. The abundant life Jesus came to give. One thing the Holy Spirit showed me was that Jesus did not wait to forgive us of our sins. While He was still in agony on the cross, in pain, all that our sins had done to him fresh, with His dying breath He said “Father forgive them they no not what they do.” Another thing the Holy Spirit has taught me about forgiveness is “I’m to forgive in the same manner I wish to be forgiven. So often we think of this in terms of our relationship with God, but I think it is also for our relationships with each other. In the same manner we want others to forgive us, we must be willing to forgive our fellow man. Give and it shall be given unto you. I believe applies more than to money. Be free and forth coming in forgiving others and God will work it out that others are free and forth coming in forgiving you. any way. wish you well and God bless, Kat

  5. Hello Sarah,
Someonne once compared “forgiveness to the smell flowers give when you step on them.” In order words, it’s possible for people to step on our toes especially those dearest to our hearts; husbands, wives, children, relatives. But forgivensss does more good than the lethal venom of vengance; forgiveness enables us to bury the past so that we are able to remain ever fresh and green. And most times, i have found that prayer makes it easier for us to forgive those who hurt us. But when we refuse to forgive we block our access to the anoiting. So be preapare to alaways forgive just as Jesus did on the cross.
